Dofus-Arena potential to be in WCG 2009 http://www.wcg.com/6th/poll/poll_PTT.asp

The World Cyber Games is currently the world's largest e-sport association, giving out thousands of dollars of prize money annually.

For those not as competitive-gaming-sabby as me...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_sports
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Cyber_Games

So when you scroll down to "Role Playing Game", you see "Dofus Arena"

Let's face it, there is a very VERY small chance that a game such as this will be in the World Cyber games, given that its turn based, and the only MMORPG ever in the wcg was Red Stone, last year. If anything, it'll be World of warcraft and Redstone, and highly unlikely that it will be anything else (if more than one is chosen)

But vote anyway, and maybe I'll see you guys in China next year =P

Is it really okay to have a beta-phase game in the World Cyber Games?

And plus, how did the WCG committee find out about Dofus-Arena in the first place, let alone list it without notifying the company who are making the game?

It smells a bit fishy to me. I reckon it might be a scam.

...

I voted anyway, though!

EDIT: You've provided the poll, but it doesn't work. You need to go to the actual site and launch it as a javascript thing.

http://www.wcg.com/6th/2008/games/officialgames.asp

Go to the right hand side under "FOCUS ON THIS" and hit "game selection". Everyone needs to do this!

The big problem is that in 2009 it's organized in China...

Will dofus arena have enough popularity that a reasonable amount of players will want to go to china for it?
It would be easier if it was in France (or Belgium!) as most players live there.

But it's probably a non-problem anyway...

Wow, it took a long time to make that site work ohmy.gif .

I'll have you know that only 1 Red Stone team showed up in WCG USA...
Besides, (In usa and South Korea anyway, not really for sure) if you win the national qualifiers, you get your way paid to the grand finals.

Edit: Turns out if WCG can't find a sponsor to pay the winner's way to the designated location of the grand finals, there's no qualifiers for that country.

This is a MAJOR issue in Australia, and even more so in the state that I live in... There wasn't even a WCG 2008 qualifying event held anywhere in the state; the closest one was in Adelaide, and only had Warcraft and Counterstrike I think...

If D-A does get into the WCG '09, I'm afraid Australia won't be represented ^^ Looks like you guys will just have to take on the French without us xD

Let's estimate the team selection possibilities:

America: Probably around 1000
Australia: Last time I checked there was only 6 in the top 2000, but since then I've recruited a few more players in Perth, so it'd probably be 10, with 6 I know living in Perth xP
Asia: Out of the whole continent I reckon there'd be 100-200 players xD
Europe (excl. France): probably another 1000-2000

And finally, France: 100,000 sounds about right xD

So, when I think about it, no matter where in the world it's held it will probably be a France vs Europe competition... Americans probably wouldn't get sent as no WCG event will be held for it over other more popular games, and no other country has a large enough player base xD

It's sad, but probably true T.T

Back to trying to invent a .Hack solution, I guess ^^

For what it's worth: DA isn't selected for this year. (yes, I'm a necromancer, but starting another thread didn't seem necessary)
